Hello readers! In my last post I talked about how we learned some basic stitches for embroidery. For our next assignment, we were supposed to use those stitches plus explore more and create an embroidery swatch.

The idea behind the swatch that I created was inspired by flowers and the sky. I am somebody who absolutely adores flowers and the blue sky makes me all calm. I wanted to use both of these and create something. I chose the shape of a rainbow and added floral embroideries. The colors that I picked are more of pastel shades as they are pleasing to look at.

I started by taking muslin fabric and drawing the guide lines. I started filling with flowers which are a variation of running stitch and I used french knots too.

For the next arch, I did a basic satin stitch using brown anchor thread.

The next stitches are done using fishbone stitch. This is a common stitch used mostly to make leaves.

The final swatch looks like this. I really like how it turned out. This was almost the exact idea I had in mind. The patterns did change while drawing on the fabric but the idea remained the same.

Here are some close ups. I used variations of running stitch and satin stitch for the other arches.

It took a long long time to finish this swatch but it was totally worth it. I can think of a lot a ways to use this swatch. It could be a neckline, it could be used as a swatch itself for decoration, it could be a cushion cover design.

Thank you for reading this post! You can always subscribe for more:)
